Chapter 51
Eliana knew exactly what Aidan meant - Eddie would be in hot water if she didn’t obey him this instant. As such, she pulled her brother close and whispered in his ear, “Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of father and will oversee Bryan’s funeral well. Wait for me - I’ll get you back as soon as I can, alright? Please believe in me.”
“Ellie…” Eddie trailed off as he looked at Eliana. The latter shook her head and held back the tears that had welled up in her eyes as she gently ran her fingers through her brother’s hair.
“Robert,” Aidan reminded in an icy voice. Knowing that Aidan was rushing him, Robert immediately acknowledged him before walking over to Eddie - “Mr Harvey, we need to go.”
Before they left, Eddie glared at Aidan coldly and growled, “Listen here - even if you were to do anything to me, I’ll be sure to come back to haunt you when I’m dead should you dare to hurt my sister.” He then turned to glance softly at Eliana before leaving together with Robert.
It wasn’t until after Eddie had left did Eliana glare at Aidan. Aidan raised a brow and scoffed, “What’s up with that look that you’re giving me. Your eldest brother died gambling - and your younger brother, too, sooner or later, shall die due to that big mouth of his…”
“Don’t worry - I know my brother better than anyone else and am confident that a good person like him will not do anything unscrupulous,” Eliana cut Aidan off before he could complete his words, “If anything were to happen to him...it would be the other party’s fault and not him.”
Aidan opened his mouth to say something in retortion - just as he was about to do so, however, Travis rushed forward to stand in between the two - “Eliana, since Bryan’s death is being investigated right now...is his funeral still going to be held?”
Eliana couldn’t help but turn to look at her unconscious father through the window at Travis’ words - Father would definitely not be able to bear the truth that Bryan had been murdered...he’ll only be at ease believing that he’d been killed by accident…
And so, after a long moment of contemplation, Eliana decided, “Yes,” Travis frowned, “But...if Bryan were to be cremated, there won’t be any evidence left…” Eliana replied, “Even though Bryan probably deserved to die for everything that he’d done, he deserves justice...as such, I don’t think that I’ll be cremating him for the time being. I hope...that you’ll be able to keep this a secret for a while.”
Travis glanced at Aidan - seeing that the latter had no objections, he nodded and agreed, “Alright, I can promise you that.” Eliana bowed deeply before the former to express her gratitude - “Thank you so much.” She then turned and went back into the hospital ward that her father was in.
Aidan did not try and bother Eliana for the rest of the night - all he did was to get two people to stand outside to guard the door to ensure that she couldn’t leave.
…
Richard woke up the next morning - Eliana immediately took hold of her father’s hand gently as she informed him, “Dad, I...I’ve just brought Bryan back from the crematorium. I’ll place him beside mother later..do you think that you’re well enough to come along?
Richard nodded weakly and sadly - “In that case, I’ll help you out of bed, be careful and take it slow, alright?” Eliana continued. And so, she helped her father out of bed and out of the ward - upon seeing that Aidan was outside, Richard frowned slightly. Alas, he did not say a word or try to comment on his presence. He was worried about the trouble that he could potentially get his daughter into should he say anything or act rashly.
Richard looked away from Aidan and murmured to his daughter, “Let’s go.” Just as they’d reached the elevator to go down, however, the doors opened to reveal Laura, who stumbled forward slightly even though she was being supported by someone - she sobbed as she knelt before Richard, wailing - “Uncle, I’m so, so sorry for your loss - I just heard the news this morning. You must...you must stay strong...my condolences.”
Eliana couldn’t believe the audacity of this wicked woman to be crying crocodile tears even at such a time - she turned to look at Aidan and saw that he did not intend to do anything about Laura. Wow, this fellow is really considerate towards her, isn’t he? Allowing her to kick up a fuss even at such a time…
Richard sighed exasperatedly, “Miss Collins, I’ll have to trouble you to give way, we’re in a hurry.” Alas, Laura did not relent - “Uncle…” she sobbed. “Miss Collins, please give way,” he repeated himself - once again, however, Laura shook her head and did not let Richard good. Having had enough of Laura’s antics, Eliana stepped forward to pull Laura by the arm and shove her aside. Laura instantly fell to the ground at her actions.
Aidan immediately moved to help Laura up from where she’d fallen - “Eliana…” he growled in a low and warning tone.
