Chapter 58

“He was too far away for the worker to see his face clearly,” Robert informed resignedly, “All he could make out was that the man had a buzz cut, and was of a taller and bulkier built than Bryan. He said that he’d witnessed the man holding Bryan by the collar - it seemed that there had been a dispute between the two men. However, since Bryan was not exactly very friendly with his fellow workers, the witness decided to ignore what he’d seen and gone back to join the others for dinner.” “So that means that he didn’t see the crime being committed,” Aidan stated monotonously. Robert nodded, “That’s right.” Eliana was quiet for a moment before she asked, “Do you think that you can still find this person?” Robert hesitated for a moment before he replied, “Well, even if we find this person, we’ve no proof that he’d killed Bryan since there had been no witness on scene.”  “That’s not necessarily true - check the surveillance camera footage near the construction site,” Aidan ordered, “There shouldn’t be many vehicles passing by since the place is a little bit out of the way. I’m not doing this because I want to find out whether or not this was a murder - I’m doing this because I want to let whoever who’s trying to frame me for murder know just how stupid and ignorant they are.” As Aidan spoke, he glared at Eliana coldly.  Eliana dug her fingernails into her palms under the table and did not say anything. Aidan scoffed before rising from where he was seated, “Robert, I want you to keep a close eye on her,” he commanded, “Remember - she likes to eat leftovers. So make sure that she eats all of the leftovers on the table.” He then shot Eliana a cold glance before turning to leave for his office.  Eliana remained where she was seated at the dining table - she had no appetite at all. “Miss Harvey,” Robert whispered urgently, “Please, just eat something.” Eliana sighed, “Robert, please, I...I’ve had enough. Didn’t you see me down those two bottles of milk? So, please...let me take my time to eat.”  Robert smiled understandingly, “Miss Harvey, don’t worry, I’ll handle it. Second Young Master would’ve forced you to eat the food if he wanted to - so, if you really don’t want to eat it, I’ll just get someone to clear it up.”  Eliana nodded gratefully, “That would be lovely,” she said, “Thank you so much, Robert.” Robert grinned, “It’s my pleasure.” Just as he was about to leave, the former stopped him, “Oh, right, Robert, wait.” Robert halted in his tracks and looked at her, “Miss Harvey, do you have any orders for me?”  “Oh, no, it’s not an order,” Eliana said, “I just wanted to ask...if you could get me the medicine? You should know what I’m talking about - or can you at least tell me where it is? I don’t want you to get into trouble should Aidan find out about this…” she trailed off.  Robert couldn’t help but turn red as he realized what Eliana was talking about - sensing his hesitation, Eliana pleaded, “Robert, please - I’ve already given birth to an unfortunate stillborn. I’m afraid of bringing another child into this world just to suffer...besides, given my current condition, it’ll be quite dangerous and risky should I really have been impregnated…”  “The medicine is in the second drawer in my room,” Robert relented. Eliana instantly brightened up at this, “Thank you so much, Robert.” And so, she went to Robert’s room to retrieve the medicine before returning to her room to take it.  She’d initially wanted to stay in her room - however, she couldn’t help but feel unsettled and uncomfortable every time that she turned to look at the picture on the wall. And so, she decided to go to the courtyard for some fresh air - she couldn’t help but be reminded about the exercise breaks that they used to have in prison as she did so.  As she looked at the grass beneath her feet, Eliana recalled what her father had said to her yesterday - Run. Take Eddie with you. Eliana instantly fell into deep thought - That’s right. I’m going to leave this place...while it isn’t actually difficult for me to leave by myself, it’s difficult to get Eddie and dad out as well...hmm, how can I possibly go about this… Just as Eliana was preoccupied in her thoughts, a sharp voice interrupted her - “There you are! How dare you run out, you filthy woman! Aren’t you afraid that you might pollute the fresh air?” It was Laura. Eliana cursed internally and got up to return to her room - she was way too tired to deal with the former now. However, just before she could, her wicked cousin blocked her way such that she couldn’t pass through. She sneered, “So, how does being raped by the man whom you love the most in this entire world feel?” As Eliana glared at Laura, she couldn’t help but wonder if there was perhaps another way that she could escape…
