Chapter 60

“I won’t believe a single word that you say,” Aidan replied without hesitation - after all, he was well aware of Eliana’s intense hatred towards Laura and assumed that she would naturally lie about her cousin. Eliana sighed - even though she’d anticipated Aidan not to believe her, his words nevertheless cut deep into her heart. “Would you think that I deserve it if I were to be beaten to death today?” Eliana couldn’t help but ask. Aidan scoffed, “A woman like you would be beaten to death for a very good reason - for the sins that you’re so capable of and talented at committing.” “Aidan,” Eliana growled, finally unable to take it anymore as she shoved Aidan back, “Did you hear me saying all those to her with your own ears? Do you have any actual proof? How could you believe her just from a few words that she’d claimed?” “Laura slapped herself four or five times because of you,” Aidan retorted, “She tried to make up for her wrongdoings, but what about you? You put all the blame on her and refuse to take any accountability whatsoever - how could you live with yourself like this, Eliana?” Eliana couldn’t help but chuckle bitterly, “Yes, that’s right - I’m always the bad woman, always the liar and the sinner in your eyes. It was foolish of me to think that your perception of me would change today…” “It looks like you’re quite self-aware,” Aidan mused, “Since this is the case, why did you still bother asking me to believe you when you know well that I won’t?” Eliana nodded, “That’s right - why did I even bother? Hmm, tell you what - why don’t I make you believe you today for a change?” She then walked out of the room, took a bottle of liquor from the wine cabinet, and rank a few mouthfuls of it. By the time Robert came out, it was too late for him to stop her - “Miss Harvey, don’t do that! What have you done!” he exclaimed in shock. Aidan rushed out from behind to see Robert extracting the bottle from Eliana. The strong smell of alcohol instantly assaulted Aidan’s nostrils - “Eliana, have you gone out of your mind!” Aidan shouted, “Do you have a death wish?” Travis had already said that it was a miracle that Eliana survived the liver transplant procedure - he warned her against consuming any alcohol and any other food which could place a burden on the remaining portions of her weak liver. Yet, despite being well aware of this, Eliana still… Just then, Eliana threw the bottle to the ground with all of her might such that it shattered across the floor - she then looked up at Aidan indignantly and said, “Aidan, I won’t die - after all, I know the consequences that my father and brother would have to bear should I do that. However, I refuse to take the blame for what happened today, because I did nothing wrong - it was Laura’s fault.” Aidan faltered slightly at this - it finally seemed as though his cold exterior had been broken, albeit just slightly. Eliana smirked internally - she knew that risking her life like this was worthwhile. She then gripped her belly and pretended as though she was in pain, before staggering back and falling onto the ground. Aidan surged forward to catch her before she could hit the ground - he shouted to Robert, “Quick, we’ve got to take her to the hospital.” … Travis waited at the entrance of the hospital after receiving a call from a frantic Aidan - as soon as they arrived with Eliana, Travis had some medical staff rush Eliana, into an emergency room to be treated. Thankfully, her condition was not life-threatening as she had not drunk too much alcohol. Eliana drifted in and out of consciousness and caught a high fever by mid-afternoon - she couldn’t stop murmuring under her breath. The only word that she repeated over and over was her brother’s name - “Eddie...Eddie...Eddie…”
