Chapter 77
This sudden unexpected gesture from Evan shocked not just Eliana, but also Aidan and Laura. Even though Evan had many toys, he treasured the Rubik’s Cube, which Aidan had bought for him while he was abroad on a business trip, dearly such that he always kept it close with him. He cherished it so much that it was extremely unlike him to be giving it to someone else…
Evan continued to press the Rubik’s Cube into Eliana’s palm - he seemed to be insistent that she accepted the toy. As such, the latter took the cube from the former and smiled fondly at him, “Thank you, Evan.”
Aidan couldn’t help but furrow his brows at the sight of Eliana smiling - it’d been so long since he’d last seen her smile like this.
Laura, who was a little flustered and confused by the unexpected turn of events, hurriedly rushed forward to pull Evan behind her and snatch the Rubik’s Cube from Eliana’s hands - she then squatted down and said to Evan, “Evan, if you want to give your aunt a present, I can help you get one. You can’t give old and used things to other people - it’ll make them unhappy.”
Eliana narrowed her eyes at Laura - she knew that her wicked cousin was making a jab at her on purpose. Just as she was about to say something, Aidan scoffed, “What could possibly make a person like her unhappy?” He then turned away to rub Evan’s head, “Let’s go - I’ll take you back to your room to rest, alright?”
Just as Laura had taken Evan by his hand and was about to leave with Aidan, the little boy suddenly broke away from the former to run over to Eliana and present her the Rubik’s Cube again. Laura tried to step forward and intervene, only for Aidan to grab her by the wrist to hold her back. “Aidan, what if Ellie doesn’t like the Rubik’s Cube?” Laura pouted.
“Leave,” Aidan said curtly to Laura. The latter couldn’t believe her ears - was Aidan really telling her to leave? Was she really going to let him stay here with Eliana and Evan?
“Aidan, I…” Before Laura could even finish her sentence, Aidan turned to Robert and said to him, “Laura had been quite tired these days looking after Evan - I want to let Eliana take over and look after Evan for a while.” Laura gritted her teeth at this - she didn’t want to let Eliana take care of Evan!
“Aidan, I don’t think that’ll be a very good idea - after all, unlike me, Ellie doesn’t have any experience taking care of a child. What if Evan were to be mistreated like the last time…” Laura tried to reason with Aidan, only for the latter to narrow his eyes at her as he turned to Robert, “Get someone to take Laura back to her room to rest.”
“Yes, Second Young Master,” Robert nodded before gesturing for a servant to take Laura away. Laura was seething as she was led away - she couldn’t help but feel as though Evan was deliberately getting her worked up on purpose.
After Laura had left, Aidan instructed Robert, “Get someone to watch over Eliana - break her hand if she dares to try and hurt Evan.”
Aidan had actually been consulting a child psychologist whose contact he’d asked Travis for about Evan’s speech impediment - the doctor suggested that the child should have more contact with his biological mother.
As such, as much as Aidan resented the idea of someone like Eliana taking care of Evan, he decided to entrust him to her for the sake of the little boy.
…
Laura fumbled for her spare mobile phone to make a phone call as soon as she returned to the guest house. “It’s me - Laura. Aidan gave Evan to Eliana.”
“What?” The deep voice sounded on the other end, “Did you do something to offend Aidan?”
“No, it’s that obnoxious little boy, Evan - he decided to give Eliana a stupid little present for some reason. Ugh, I’m so pissed off right now.”
The person on the other end was silent for a moment before he spoke up, “It won’t be good for you if the little boy actually learns to speak. You know just how strong bonds run when you’re blood-related.”
“What should I do then?” Laura asked anxiously. “Well, you can always get rid of that useless kid.” The voice on the other end stated a matter-of-factly. Laura gaped, “What? Do you actually want me to…”
