Chapter 79
“I’m just saying how I feel when I look at Evan,” Eliana sighed exasperatedly - could Aidan give her a break for once? Alas, Aidan snorted coldly, “What makes you think that we would take your feelings into account, huh?”
“Evan is so unlucky to have been adopted by the two of you,” Eliana couldn’t help but comment. Aidan got so mad at this that he reached out to punch Eliana on the shoulder blade - even though she was in pain, Eliana did not let out a sound and glared challengingly at the former.
“Aidan, please, that’s enough,” Just then, Laura stepped forward to stand in between Aidan and Eliana, “Ellie’s right, a little bit of vitamin D is good for the child - I was just concerned that he might get a sunburn or something. Please, Aidan, calm down - don’t be mad. I don’t want you to frighten Evan.”
Aidan backed off and growled at Eliana, “Eliana, you have no right to speak in this house - you’d better behave yourself and shut your trap. Do you understand me?” Eliana averted her eyes from Aidan - she didn’t want to say anything else to the latter.
“Oh, this is all my fault,” Laura mourned, “I should’ve known about just how much Evan adores nature…” Aidan rubbed her shoulders comfortingly as he reassured her, “No, Laura, please don’t blame yourself - it’s not your fault. The child is mute - it’s difficult for us to guess what he’s thinking about.”
“Hmm, Aidan, how about this - if you can take some time off from work, why don’t we go on a short vacation to Mount Claverd? Perhaps the child will gradually open up if he’s surrounded by nature. We can go with my friend, Megan, and her child.”
Aidan immediately agreed upon recalling the doctor’s advice. He then turned to Robert and instructed, “I want you and Caleb Leslie to fit this into my schedule for the coming week.” Robert nodded in acknowledgment before turning to leave.
“Aidan, you’re the best,” Laura beamed, “I love that you’re always supporting me for whatever that I may want.” Eliana couldn’t help but scowl internally at this - Laura was absolutely insufferable to her. Aidan noticed the indifference on Eliana’s face and couldn’t help but feel irritated by it.
Eliana soon led Evan away to help him get washed up - she didn’t want to stay around Aidan and Laura for even just a second longer. Aidan got a servant to take Laura back to her room as soon as they’d left - she agreed despite being unhappy about this. She couldn’t help but sneer slightly when she passed by Eliana and Evan in the courtyard - It’s alright, Eliana. Go ahead and play with your precious son, Laura scowled internally. I’ll make you kill him with your own hands in a few days’ time anyway…
…
And so, everyone set off to Mount Claverd on Friday that week - aside from Megan Briggs, whom Laura had invited, Travis tagged along as well as he had an off day that day. Cars stopped one after another along the road as servants poured out to set up the tents and the tables for the vacation.
“Isn’t this lovely, Aidan?” Laura squealed delightedly as she watched everything being set up - Aidan merely grunted before looking off in the distance to see Eliana holding Evan’s hand as they looked at some mountains in the distance. Laura noticed this as well and couldn’t help but feel a tinge of jealousy bite at her heart.
Just as she was about to say something to Aidan, Travis came over and pulled him away, “It’s a marvelous day, isn’t it?” he grinned, “Come on, let’s all have a nice drink together.”
As Aidan was led away by Travis, Laura gritted her teeth and clenched her fists as she continued to watch Eliana and Evan from a distance - Just you wait, Eliana...you’re going to get it soon.
