Chapter 4
At this moment, I abandoned my dignity, almost bowing completely, choking back tears: "Lucas, can you believe me?"
"Please don't lock me in the dungeon, please... Selena can have whatever she wants, I'll give up everything, okay? Please..."
Lucas's expression remained icy, his lips curling into a sneer.
"Sophia, to prevent you from doing more harm, you should reflect in the dungeon."
These words gripped my heart, and I cried out in despair: "I won't have tomorrow... Can I please go home!"
Lucas grabbed my neck, enunciating each word: "If you dare to affect Selena, I will ensure you truly have no tomorrow."
I was dragged into the dungeon, locked in endless cold and darkness.
The moonlit ceremony proceeded as scheduled.
And I, could only wait for death.
After the ceremony, Lucas finally remembered me.
"Has Sophia confessed?"
But the guard brought news of my death.
"Sophia... she's dead..."
Lucas chuckled coldly, clearly disbelieving.
"Did she escape? Or are you lying under threat?"
The guard looked uneasy.
"Alpha, how dare I lie, Sophia really passed away."
Lucas was momentarily stunned.
In the next second, he rushed to the dungeon.
Leaving behind a bewildered Selena at the celebration.
Seeing Lucas leave, Selena immediately followed.
Inside the cell, silence reigned.
"Sophia! You damned woman! Do you think faking your death will evade punishment? Get up!"
But when he saw the scene inside the cell, his tall frame froze at the doorway.
"So, Sophia?" His throat tightened.
No response.
He trembled as he touched my cheek.
Only to feel an icy chill.
Selena arrived, seeing this, she screamed.
"Sophia, she... dead?"
Lucas remained silent, holding me and walking step by step out of the dungeon.
But his embrace could no longer warm me.
Late at night, he came to my room, drunk.
Empty.
The entire room was empty, causing a heart-wrenching void.
All my belongings were gone.
"Someone!"
"Sophia's things? Where are they?"
A maid answered nervously:
"Alpha, you ordered us to throw away her things and replace them for Selena..."
This statement hit Lucas like a hammer.
He stood dazed for a long time, finally waving dismissively, smiling bitterly, dismissing the frightened maid.
Yes, this was all his choice.
He had forgotten about Selena.
Just as he was about to comfort the shocked Selena, he heard her voice outside the door.
"Father, you were right, Sophia is indeed foolish."
"I just followed your instructions and got Sophia's Frostwolf Bone Whistle."
"Now Lucas trusts me completely, and soon I'll have everything Sophia had."
Lucas stood frozen behind the door, his heart suddenly seized with pain.
He had been deceived. He had misunderstood Sophia, and pushed her away himself.
Selena was the truly malicious one.
Before he could confront Selena, a servant informed him:
"Alpha, the funeral is ready."
At the edge of the Pack, in the Moonlight Grove.
Lucas stood before the grave, his face cold.
Selena sobbed beside him.
Suddenly, the sound of heavy, rhythmic hooves broke the silence.
A group of weary riders emerged.
The chief elder had silver hair and wore a Frostwolf pelt, his eyes sharp as knives.
It was my grandfather, Hector, the legendary chieftain of the Frostwolf Pack.
His gaze swept over everything, his eyes instantly turning to ice.
"Lucas."
"I've come to take my granddaughter home. Her bones and soul shouldn't be buried in this filthy place!"
He stormed towards Lucas in fury.
Selena stepped forward, trying to block his rage.
"Sophia... left so suddenly, we all..."
"Who are you? What right do you have to stand in my way!"
Hector roared, making Selena pale and nearly fall.
Hector's gaze fixed on Lucas.
"Blackstone Canyon, ten years ago, you were trapped by Bloodfoxes, your heart pierced! Who helped you lead the pursuers away and dragged you from the battlefield?"
"She did! Sophia!"
"She suffered hidden injuries in her legs, hurting every night, hiding it from you out of fear of your guilt. She only wanted your true heart!"
Hector laughed bitterly, then turned away, shouting:
"Lift the coffin! Take Sophia home!"
Watching the thin coffin being lifted, Lucas felt his soul tearing apart.
He lunged at the coffin, fingers digging into its edges.
"Lucas..."
Selena slowly approached, trying to hug him from behind: "Don't be like this, you still have me, we should be destined mates."
"Look, the token of the Moon Goddess is with me, when will we hold the ceremony to make me your true Mate?"
"Sophia's death isn't your fault, it was her fate."
As her fingertips were about to touch his arm,
"Bam!"
Lucas shoved her away, sending Selena crashing to the cold ground.
"Mate?"
Lucas's voice was hoarse and low.
"Are you worthy to bear the Moonmark Oath?"
"My Mate has always been only one!"
"Sophia."
"Only her!"
"And you..."
He looked down at Selena's suddenly pale face.
"If you dare come near me again, I'll make you wish you were dead!"
Selena was struck like lightning.
The immense humiliation made her tremble violently.
She suppressed her fear, trembling as she spoke:
"Lucas, I'm sorry."
"I shouldn't have brought it up now, I'll wait."
"I'll be here whenever you need me."
