Linda ended the call and looked toward the figure standing by the floor-to-ceiling window. Christian stood upright with his back to her, a quiet tension hanging in the air around him.
Linda sank onto the couch, her tone heavier than she realized. "Someone is clearly targeting Annie this time. I've asked around for Maeve's opinion. Now that she's knee-deep in public backlash, I doubt she'll let this matter slide."
Christian didn't reply, nor did he turn around. The office was so quiet that the soft hum of the air conditioning was the only sound in the room.
He figured that Annie must be devastated right now. Not only had she been betrayed, but she now had to endure the accusations that were leveled at her.
