Turning around, she spotted Marcus coming her way with a grin like he couldn't wait for the world to know they were tight or something.
Celeste felt her temples throb. Wanting to avoid any weird looks, she casually took a small step back.
"A friend dragged me along. Couldn't say no. Didn't expect to bump into you here, Dr. Moore."
"Really? I don't recall running into you at parties like this before," he said.
From the corner of her eye, Celeste caught Grace's annoyed expression. Her gaze flicked over, and she answered in stride, voice steady.
"Come on, you of all people should know-I've been pretty much off the radar these past three years. Been nowhere near this kind of scene."
Marcus's expression faltered; clearly, he hadn't seen that coming. That part of her past wasn't exactly party talk, and she just threw it out there like nothing.
Grace's mood seemed to lighten a bit, and she slipped back into her usual smugness. Throwing a glance at Marcus, she sighed dramatically, "As if Marcu
