Chapter 12
Scarlett’s POV:
I had already mentally prepared myself for running into Everett when I came back to Los Angeles, but I didn’t expect it to happen this soon.
The second he walked in, I could feel his eyes pinned on me. It wasn't very pleasant, but I managed to keep my cool expression perfectly in place.
I kept reminding myself it’s all in the past. This trip home was for work. Nothing—and no one—should mess with that.
“Mr. Robinson, please have a seat,” Uncle Robert greeted him warmly, and he sat opposite me.
But seeing him and Amelia show their affection made me lose my appetite. I excused myself with a few polite words and left the room.
I walked fast, the clicks of my high heels echoing across the marble floor like a ticking clock.
Each step matched the frantic beating of my heart.
If someone listened closely, they might have noticed how shaky those sounds were.
I thought two months would be enough time to dull everything, to stop myself from caring… but it seems not.
Love might only
