Scarlett’s POV
After Damian left, boredom started to creep in. I checked my phone, replied to a few messages from friends and family, and scrolled through the internet for a while.
But my stomach kept cramping with hunger, making it impossible to focus on anything.
I called Eleanor. “Ellie, where are you?”
“Scarlett, they said it’ll take another thirty minutes before traffic clears. Are you really starving?” she asked.
“Starving,” I groaned, lying weakly on the hospital bed and staring at the ceiling. “Just order whatever’s fastest. Something five minutes out, then call me. I swear my stomach feels glued to my spine.”
“Okay, okay. Hang in there. I’ll place an order right now.”
After hanging up, I rubbed my flat, growling stomach and closed my eyes.
Not even five minutes later, the hospital room door creaked open.
I sat up straight, eyes lighting up. “Wow, I didn’t expect delivery to be this fast! That was—”
My words caught in my throat.
