Claire's POV
As we drove home from the clinic, Lucius became ridiculously overprotective. He drove slower than usual, kept asking if I was comfortable, and even insisted on helping me out of the car like I was made of glass.
Once we got home, he wouldn't leave me alone—fluffing pillows I didn't need, asking if I wanted water every two minutes, and practically jumping whenever I moved on the couch.
"You should still go on your business trip," I said. "I'll be fine at home. I promise to call if anything feels... weird."
Lucius watched me closely, making me uncomfortable. "But...."
"Aren't you always concerned about pack business and company management?" I cut him off. "I can take care of myself!"
"Claire, this is different. You're carrying my pup, and after what Dr. Reyna said about the changes—"
"Lucius." I held up my hand to stop him. "I'm pregnant, not helpless. You hovering around me isn't going to make the baby grow any differently."
He opened his mouth to argue again.
