He really did go ahead and change the lightbulb, then told me to flip the switch and check it out.
The moment I hit the switch, the warm glow from the bulb completely drowned out the dim candlelight. He was still standing on the table, the light filtering through the strands of his hair as his squinting eyes looked even more sharp and mature.
As he jumped down, he glanced at my suitcase in the corner and gave me a subtle smirk. “Weren’t you planning to move back in with him and collect dirt? Why’s your stuff here?”
“There’s a buzzing fly over there, not worth the headache. I’m just crashing here for a few days,” I blurted, making sure he knew it was temporary—I didn’t need him thinking about moving in too.
But he either didn’t get the hint or just didn’t care. “Cool. Then I’ll crash here for a few days too. Keep you company.”
I stared at him wide-eyed and shook my head. “Nope. Not a good idea. We’re not… like that.”
He frowned and grabbed my wrist. “Says who? I think it's perfect.”
