Henry’s question made me pause for a couple of minutes.
I replayed everything that happened today in my head. I went to the vineyard, saw Edward Collins, but didn’t mention a single word about the three million. Still, someone behind the scenes caught wind of my move. They sent people to intimidate me, asked why I was there—clearly a warning to back off.
If I told Henry the truth, knowing him, he'd try every way to stop me from digging further.
With that in mind, I quickly came up with a story. “Those two guys? They’re friends of my cousin. A few days ago, Ryan took them to the hospital and caused a scene. I kicked them out, so now they’re holding a grudge and came to scare me. Ryan’s the only son of my uncle, and my uncle’s always been decent to me. Since I wasn’t hurt, I figured it’s best not to stir up more trouble.”
Henry didn’t look totally convinced, but hey, I wasn’t lying. If he wanted to check, he’d find the same story.
