Keep a Pure Heart
Luke admitted that he didn't think like a normal person, but he was different from those "monsters" who were hiding in the dark.
His heart was not swallowed by the evil darkness.
His heart was still warm and humane.
But he couldn't deny the fact that he had a sense of familiarity with them.
In this matter, he followed his intuition and wanted to integrate the fragmented clues in his brain. Maybe he would deduce the result.
......
A month ago, Hazel asked Wilson to issue a notice and offer a huge reward, letting Kit know that they were looking for him.
But Kit had never contacted them. Perhaps, he did not care about the bounty they offered.
Besides, she now knew that Kit was in some kind of trouble. If she went looking for him in such a grand scale, she would probably put him in danger.
Over the next month, Hazel only heard from Wilson that ten more cases had happened one after another.
However, he never disclose the details of the cases.
She guessed that the contents of the case were so horrible that Regan demanded Wilson to concealed it from her in case the detail would scare her.
When Luke learned the latest information from Wilson and knew that the victims were children, he was getting more and more agitated. How could he hurt the innocent and defenseless children?!
Although he did not meet the man face to face, he remembered every detail of the information he collected during this period.
He felt that he was getting more familiar with this psycho. Apart from his face, he knew everything about him including his modus operandi and mindset.
Sometimes, he even felt that he was getting closer and closer to him.
At first, he intended to find that person so that he could get more information about Kit and save his father, but now, he had another idea, which was to catch him!
This was not because of his sense of justice, but because that person deserved a punishment!
The family gathered together to make pizzas.
As Hazel was heating up the oven, she couldn't help smiling when she saw Luke decorate his pizza with a serious expression.
He placed every piece of the toppings on the dough in a perfect order without a single mess so that each slice would get the exact same amount of toppings.
Moreover, the pizza Regan decorated was exactly the same as his, as if they were made by the same person.
Zac and Gia, on the other hand, decorated their pizzas playfully by arranging the toppings to create faces on the dough.
Valeria preferred a single topping pizza, so he arranged sliced sausages on his dough.
Hazel loved to tease the serious Luke, so she touched his nose with some flour, but Luke did not notice her mischievous action at all and continued making the pizza.
Then, Hazel shifted her target on the other children, but the three kids glanced back at her simultaneously, making it impossible for her to do anything to them.
Regan glanced at Luke, observing him tentatively, and soon composed himself.
Meanwhile, Hazel, Zac, and Gia laughed out loud in amusement.
Only then did Luke notice the oddity and raised his head to look around in confusion.
"Luke, look at your face. It's so cute!" Zac laughed.
Hazel took out her handkerchief with a smile and wiped Luke's nose. "My silly son, you are so cute! Why do you look so serious while making the pizza?"
Luke blushed timidly. He had indeed been in a daze just now, because he was thinking about the murderer and hoped that he could integrate the truth by connecting the dots.
When the pizzas were taken out of the oven, they sat together and happily ate the pizzas.
Hazel reminded the children gently, "It's still hot. Eat slowly."
Meanwhile, Regan took a slice of the pizza and let it cool down before giving it to her. Then, he watched her eat it with a loving glance.
After lunch, Regan asked Luke to come to the study with him.
Then, Regan carried Luke up and let him sit next to him.
Regan's eyes were as sharp as an eagle's, and they could easily read through Luke's mind.
"Luke, there was something off with your eyes... What were you thinking?" asked Regan bluntly.
Luke widened his eyes in shock as if his father cracked open his brain and saw his thought.
"I'm sorry, Father."
Suddenly, Regan saw other emotions floating in Luke's eyes, and they were no longer pure and clear as before. It made him feel vigilant.
"Luke, you're smart, and you're very much like me, but when someone is too smart, it's easy to lose himself, especially his pure heart. You're still young. Although you have experienced a lot, your heart is still pure. The purer the heart is, the easier it will be swallowed by darkness. So don't get too involved in some things, because it may lead you to a different goal or ending. Do you understand?"
He understood this sentiment the most because when he lost himself and his pure heart, he deeply hurt the person he loved as well as himself.
Abruptly, Luke felt as if he was nudged awake. He had always thought that he was walking on a firm and correct path, but now he realized that he had deviated from his original journey. Regan would have found out something, so he reminded him.
"Okay, Father."
"Good. Leave everything to me. Don't worry."
"Alright."
Regan pinched Luke's face, a look of regret appearing in his eyes. "It was nicer to pinch you when you were chubbier. Your cheeks felt a little meaty. Eat more meat tonight so that you can gain some weight."
Luke nodded hard. "Okay."
After Luke left, the smile in Regan's eyes faded away and was replaced with deep worry.
He was careless for overlooking Luke's oddity. If he hadn't just seen Luke's expression, he wouldn't have known that Luke was also involved in the serial murder case.
But after thinking it through, Luke could always find a way to get the information of the cases from other channels, so it was possible that he knew all about it.
He understood all the cases, so he knew very well that if an ordinary person came into contact with these cases, he would have a terrible mental breakdown.
After all, Luke was still a child. Although he was more mature and smarter than his peers, he didn't want him to get involved with these horrible and bloody cases.
If they wanted to track the murderer, the best way was to find out every detail about this person, but the consequences was that he would unconsciously take his place and slowly think like him. This was why Regan was so nervous when he saw Luke's strange expression.
At night.
When Regan was sleeping with Hazel in his arms, an idea flashed through his mind. All the clues had connected together.
