Mildred pursed her lips, then said, "Can you promise me something in return for securing this plot of land, Dad? Promise me that you won't be too sad no matter what happens in the future. You still have me and Alphonse. We'll be by your side."
Julian smiled. "Why are you getting so sentimental all of a sudden?"
Mildred silently recalled her past life. Julian, unable to bear the consecutive emotional blows, had been sent to the ICU after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. She'd been locked up in prison after that, so the two of them had never been able to meet for the last time before their deaths.
She replied, "I've just been thinking, Dad. You've already been by my brothers' sides for so many years. They're already adults now, so how about you share some more of your time and energy with me? Would you please keep me company more often and be more attentive toward me?"
