CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND SIX – JAIL TIME
Kayla sat ramrod straight across the impassive legal counselors, scarcely comprehending the words reverberating like a dull roar in her ears.
"...conclusive forensic audit trails implicate you directly in this embezzlement scheme, Mrs. Storm. The evidence leaves no doubt – you systematically and methodically pilfered company assets over an extended period. We have no choice but to press formal charges."
Finally the full gravity slammed home, forcing a ragged inhalation past her constricted airways.
"No...no, that's impossible!" she burst out, palms slicking with a cold sweat. "Those funds were hijacked from my accounts, I was the victim here! Please, you have to understand–"
"Save it for your legal team, Mrs. Storm," one of the counselors cut her off in a steely tone. "Arguing hypotheticals or professing innocence won't make a dent. Not when we have ironclad proof of your involvement in draining both personal holdings and Storm Enterprises capital reserves over a period of months."
