"You mentioned that Lance seemed distant during that particular event," she said at one point. "But have you considered that your perception of his behavior may have been influenced by the stress you were under at the time?"
Kayla frowned, her certainty wavering. "I... I suppose it's possible. But I remember it so clearly..."
"Our minds can play tricks on us, Kayla," Dr. Foster reminded her. "Especially when we're in a heightened state of emotional turmoil."
By the end of the session, Kayla felt increasingly confused, her grip on reality slipping through her fingers. She left Dr. Foster's office with a nagging sense of doubt, questioning her own memories and the validity of her experiences.
