CHAPTER SIXTY ONE – KARL’S AFFECTIONS
Back at the mansion, Cassie retreated to the kitchen, her nerves frayed from the intense interaction with Karl. As she busied herself making coffee, Xena entered, her eyes narrowing as she took in Cassie's flustered appearance.
"I hope you're not letting your... special treatment go to your head, Cassandra," Xena said coolly. "Remember your place here."
Cassie met Xena's gaze steadily. "I assure you, I know exactly where I stand, Xena."
As Xena left, Cassie couldn't help but wonder how much longer she could navigate the increasingly treacherous waters of the von Steiner household.
Over the next few weeks, Karl's interest in Cassie became increasingly apparent. He began assigning her tasks that required her to work closely with him, often late into the evening.
One night, as Cassie was organizing files in Karl's home office, he entered, loosening his tie.
