Silence settled over the hospital room, leaving Tyler and Lucian alone amidst the sterile surroundings.
Lucian's expression remained unchanged, a persistent gloom clouding his youthful features. He leaned against the bed, his gaze avoiding everyone. Mary, ever vigilant, observed him with growing concern.
Sensing the unspoken tension, Tyler moved closer to his son, placing himself beside the bed. "What's wrong?" he asked gently. "Are you feeling upset?"
Lucian's gaze shifted slightly. "Daddy," he began softly, his voice almost hesitant. "On my birthday... will she come?"
"Aunt Phoebe will come."
Lucian's reaction was immediate, his eyes snapping up to meet his father's. Tyler caught the change, leaning in slightly. "Is something wrong?"
The boy didn't respond.
Tyler, patient and concerned, asked again, "Do you not want her to come?"
Lucian lowered his head for a long time before murmuring, "Not really, it's just..." His voice was faint, lacking energy.
"Just what?"
