ELIZA’S POV
The morning was perfect today.
The capital was alive with activity and people went about their business, pushing carts and talking.
I could smell the scent of spices and baked goods from the market stalls. It was the kind of day meant for wandering, and for once, I allowed myself the luxury.
I strolled through the heart of the city with Vivi, Cynthia, Rod, and Boone. We were like a band of misfits-turned-heroes, just… existing.
No war plans. No blood on our hands. Just laughter, conversation, and the thrill of being alive.
“Okay, that’s the third sword you’ve looked at, Rod,” Cynthia teased, nudging him with her elbow. “You’re not starting your own militia, are you?”
Rod shrugged, grinning. “I’m just saying—if we accidentally get into a tavern brawl, a backup sword wouldn’t hurt.”
Boone rolled his eyes. “You need backup manners, not backup weapons.”
Vivi was the only one not bickering.
