Inside the reception lounge, Annabeth stood with her arms crossed and her chin lifted high, her expression sharp with thinly veiled contempt.
Two assistants hovered behind her, mirroring her arrogance, as though they hadn't come to demand an explanation but to claim the spoils from a defeated opponent.
"I'll say this one last time," Annabeth snapped. "Have Emily come down here and see me. What's the point of hiding like a coward? She leaked the proposal, but now, she doesn't even have the nerve to admit it?"
Her shrill voice echoed across the lobby, drawing curious yet wary glances from passing employees.
Just then, Mallory stepped out of the elevator, wearing a polite yet distant smile on her face. "Annabeth, you seem awfully upset. Are you here to accuse us of wrongdoing?"
