29 The aftermath

I stood there with my chest clenched in my arms watching Hadizat crying on the floor. Just then I saw some policemen approach her. I walked towards them.
“Is there a problem madam,” one of them asked Hadizat. She didn’t turn to look at them, nor did she answer the question, she just continued crying.
“A young innocent boy was killed here in that fire,” I said to them.
“Ah, jungle justice. What exactly happened,” a police man asked.
“We don’t know what exactly happened, all we know is that the boy was innocent”
“Any witnesses?”
“Yes that woman,” I pointed but the old woman wasn’t there anymore, “there was an old woman who claimed she saw everything there just now, but she’s gone,” I said confused.
“Don’t worry sir, we’ll investigate and get back to you.”
