Chapter 15 Got What I Wanted

I watched as Alicia stood frozen in place, my words settling over her like a suffocating weight.
“Marry me.”
She looked at me as if I had lost my mind. Perhaps I had. But I had no regrets.
I have a goal that I need to achieve, and my position is on the line.
“I’m sorry. Did I hear you wrong? Are you deaf or just stupid? You know that I told you I don’t want to marry you. Is that so hard to understand it?” she said her tone filled with irritation.
Her eyes, usually so full of fire and determination, flickered with disbelief. I leaned back against my desk, waiting for her to process the reality of the situation.
“Yes, I heard you the first time. However, I don’t care whether you want to or not.”
Finally, she shook her head. “This is insane,” she muttered. “You're blackmailing me into marriage?”
I exhaled slowly, crossing my arms. “Blackmail is such an ugly word. I prefer to think of it as... persuasion.”
