The auction began shortly after. Antiques, paintings, jewelry, and diamonds were presented one after another on stage as bidding voices rang out.
Cressida showed little interest until one particular piece was brought out. It was a necklace with an intricate design, with a pigeon's blood ruby set at its center. Under the lights, the gemstone shimmered with deep red brilliance.
Her breath caught when she saw that. This was Kieran's late mother's work, the only keepsake she had left him. It had been stolen years ago in an accident, and he'd been searching for it ever since.
Still, Cressida never expected to see it here. Her grip tightened on Tristan's arm, and her body trembled slightly.
He noticed her reaction and followed her gaze to the necklace on display.
"Do you like it?" he asked quietly. Cressida opened her mouth to explain, but the auctioneer's gavel came down and announced the start of bidding.
"The opening bid is three million."
"Five million." Tristan raised his paddle
