Chapter 1241
Matthew turned toward the stern to see an elderly woman in her 60s struggling to climb aboard another boat. She was gripping the railing, her body trembling with effort as she tried to make the crossing.
Without hesitation, Matthew rushed over and grabbed her hand, pulling her safely into the cabin. The old woman steadied herself against a support beam, trying to catch her breath to speak.
"I-I..."
Matthew waved dismissively, stepping back. "Don't mention it—just helping out."
The old woman caught her breath and let out a harsh snort. "Help my ass—you must have a death wish!"
Matthew's expression darkened. "Did you hit your head or something? You could have fallen into the river if I hadn't helped you."
"Oh, aren't you just Mr. Nice Guy?" the old woman sneered, her voice raspy and unsettlingly shrill. "I hate young people who act all respectful to the elderly. Next time you try to help me, I'll kill you!"
Matthew instantly regretted helping her. The woman's ingratitude was bad
