Matthew looked at Karen with much suspicion. He couldn't tell if she was lying or if she really didn't know anything, but it didn't matter because he wasn't going to leave without meeting David.
"You're right. You might not know what's up, so I'll wait for your dad to return," Matthew said.
Upon hearing that, Karen asked hesitantly, "Why don't you come and wait inside?"
Matthew saw through her doubts and smiled as he said, "I can just wait outside if you feel troubled by it."
It was normal for her to have her guard up because Matthew was merely a stranger, and he understood that as well.
