William poured himself another drink, the amber liquid swirling in the glass as he settled into the plush chair at the mansion’s mini bar. The events of the evening weighed heavily on him, Cynthia’s stern words about the family’s expectations and the emotional dinner with Kimberly were both lingering in his mind. He took a deep sip, hoping the warmth of the liquor would ease his troubled thoughts.
“Mind if I join you?” came a voice from behind, breaking the silence.
William turned to see Marcus leaning casually against the doorway, a smirk playing on his lips. He held up his own glass, already half-filled, as if in silent toast.
“Go ahead,” William replied, his voice guarded. He wasn’t in the mood for company, especially not Marcus’s.
Marcus sauntered over, taking a seat beside William and setting his glass on the bar.
“Rough night?” he asked, his tone deceptively light.
William shrugged, not wanting to delve into his personal issues with Marcus. “Just unwinding,” he said tersely
