Hector felt a shiver run down his spine when he noticed the deadly gleam in Yvette's eyes. However, he stayed seated and listened to her story in silence.
Yvette clenched her fists so tightly that her nails pressed into her palms. Her whole being appeared consumed by the fury and loathing radiating from her gaze. The intense hostility distorted her aged, wrinkled features.
"Grandma." Charlene appeared just then, holding a tray with tea and fruit. She softly addressed her and served tea for both. "Grandma, you've startled Mr. Hector."
At that moment, Yvette seemed to snap out of her thoughts. She inhaled deeply, moved to gazed out the window. The plane tree in the front yard swayed in the breeze, and a few leaves drifted from the wind.
Charlene sat next to Hector and gently patted his arm.
"Are you afraid?" she asked. "Don't worry, Grandma won't harm you. Everything she's done is in pursuit of justice for the tragic loss of over a hundred members of the Jenkins family."
