The alcohol was stronger than what I was accustomed to. The liquid burned down my throat followed by a warm, relaxing feel. I gulped it down, telling myself that I deserved a bit of a break. A reward for a job well done in putting Ryder in his place, even though I wasn't quite done yet.
By the time we were on to our fourth drinks, the hall had begun to spin around us, the edges of the hall fading around us until it was just the two of us. Everything felt lighter. There were no stakes, Mira didn't try to betray me, and we were just two best friends having a loud night in some human city.
Mira laughed at something I said, throwing her head back.
"Come on, let's dance," she grabbed my hand, not waiting for an answer, and pulled me into the dance floor.
