I stared down at my phone screen, my hands shaking. Light had begun to pour through the half-open windows. The laptop on the table was still open, but it was morning now, and that was how I knew I must have fallen asleep trying to track down Mira's location.
“No.” I shook my head and blinked twice, trying to convince myself that it was all a dream and I'd walk down the stairs and find Mira there as always, sitting on the sofa and staring at the television screen with a bottle of whiskey as usual.
There was no such luck.
On my phone was a text from Mira, except it wasn't from her at all.
"Myrtle bridge. Midnight. Come alone. Play any games and you'll never see your friend again."
“Dang it,” I cursed under my breath, rising to my feet. My hands clenched into fists at either side of me.

My phone rang.
I stiffened, seeing a call from Elias.
It rang again. I picked up on the fourth ring.
"Elias, what do you want?" I asked, my voice coming out harsher than intended.
