Chapter 40 We Have A Lead

Lucien's hand was wrapped around mine in a tight grasp as we crossed the short distance from the alley. He led me towards the car, hand placed on the small of my back, guiding me while I tried to breathe properly.
More men lay dead as we passed by… on the ground, in a pool of their own blood.
"The bullets are silver," Diego informed me.
"I see," I thought.
He just opened the door of the car.
“And what are the human police going to do when they see that?" I managed to ask.
"Some men are on their way to take care of the mess," Diego said.
I bit my lower lip. I wouldn't call dead people on the main street a mess. But then again, I tried to remind myself that they were trying to kill me, or do worse.
"That's good, I guess," I muttered under my breath.

Lucien's hand had moved to cup my cheek, pulling me closer to him. Our eyes locked up for a brief moment. I thought he was going to kiss me, but then he pulled back.
