"A problem?" the manager laughs, turning to face me, sliding a glass of whiskey on the table.
I don't take it. There's something weird about your boss calling you to the rooftop to have a drink.
I couldn't help but think something else was in play. The boss didn't seem to notice, sitting down and taking a long sip of his own glass.
"Not at all." He waved a hand. "On the contrary, I called you here because it's come to my notice how exceptional of a worker you are here."
I blinked. Exceptional? I thought, glancing at the exit way. There were no shadows at the door, no sign that anyone else was lying in wait, and yet I couldn't shake off the uneasy feeling in my stomach nor the coldness up my spine.
"I'm sure Aria and Drew are just as good," I offered.
"Well, I have a mandate for rewarding excellence." The manager rises to his feet, walking to the restaurant walls that overlook the city, leaning against the rails.
