"I already had dinner before I got back," Liliana said, settling down at the table.
She poured herself a bowl of soup—her throat felt dry after talking on the phone, and the soup helped soothe it.
"Who'd you have dinner with?" Wilson asked, his lips pressed into a thin line.
Their eyes met, and she instantly sensed a subtle tension in the air.
"With Trisha, of course. Who else could it be?" she replied, taking a sip of the soup.
It was honestly delicious. When she glanced up again, Wilson had just looked away.
"You don't like the food at home?" he asked, not sounding all that hungry himself.
"The food at home's great." She was already full, but this soup really hit the spot.
Wilson raised a brow. "Then, from now on, eat at home."
She was about to agree instinctively, but then paused—there were times when grabbing a meal with her best friend made sense.
"But Trisha's single. If I don't go, she's eating alone," she explained, blinking at him with wide, innocent eyes.
