Anya screamed, raising her hands in defense as the rogue lunged for her.
I moved before I could think twice.
The rogue slammed into me instead of her. Its claws raked across my shoulder, tearing through the white blouse and into the skin beneath. I gritted my teeth against the pain and swung around, reaching deep within me for my wolf’s strength.
A moment later, I stood on four legs instead of two. “Finally,” my wolf sighed in relief. “Some good, old-fashioned bloodshed.”
Years of warrior training kicked in in an instant. I swiped my claws at the rogue’s face, catching it right in the eye. Blood spurted from its fresh wound, making it stagger back, but it didn’t go down just yet. Instead, it whirled toward me with a snarl, yellow eyes blazing with feral anger.
Anya screamed again, frozen in place.
