#Chapter 227: A Moment Too Late
Ella’s POV
I was too late.
We had burned the artifacts and had broken the curse, but Liam’s body had been through too much. He looked so small in that hospital bed, too small, too broken. We were too fucking late.
“I called you as soon as I could,” the doctor was saying to Alexander, although his voice sounded far away to my ears, distant and muffled, as if I were stuck underwater. Drowning.
As if I were under… Where was I?
I was lost in a sea of something I could hardly recall. It was like a distant dream, too far to grasp, and yet a memory at the precipice of my mind. For a moment, as I stared at Liam laying still in that bed, I didn’t think I was here anymore. I was somewhere far away, somewhere not in this realm, drowning in an ocean of cold hands and screams.
Liam was dying.
“I’m sorry.” The doctor’s voice pulled me out of the darkness for the briefest moment. “We’re trying our best, but he’s not responding to anything…”
