Lucas' POV
I heard Carrie leave the room quickly once I gave the order.
Why did I tell her to leave?
I don't know.
I regretted it the moment the words left my mouth, though.
I sighed slowly as I lifted myself off of my desk. I was utterly exhausted, and hadn't slept in days. Sure, I didn't need as much sleep as a human, but my body and mind still needed to recharge during the day. That, and I needed blood to make me stronger.
I flinched as the phantom taste of Carrie's blood in my mouth came. I balled my hands in fists to try and rid the taste, but it would not leave me. I wanted more than everything to indulge myself and become drunk with her blood, but I knew I needed self-control.
Through my drooping eyes, I gazed into the night outside my window. The full moon cast a wonderfully eerie glow across the field leading to the barn, and long shadows from creatures lingered in the grass.
