Could Felix have recognized me already?
No, surely not. Even Clara, who had watched me grow up, hadn't suspected a thing. What could Felix possibly know about me and Helen?
I forced a laugh and cleared my throat. "Is that so? Maybe I've just been around Amber too much. I must be picking up some of her mannerisms."
Felix arched an eyebrow, his eyes dark and unreadable. For a moment, it felt as if he were seeing straight through me.
The weight of his gaze made me shift uncomfortably. I hurried to change the subject. "This garden is lovely. I haven't been here since the renovations."
As soon as I said it, regret prickled at the edges of my thoughts.
I hadn't been here—but Helen had.
They had met once, back when our families were still negotiating the engagement. It had happened here, at the Affleck residence.
Before I could figure out how to cover my slip, Felix chuckled softly. "Come on, I'll show you around."
"Okay," I said, slipping my hand into his outstretched one.
