When the creditors heard Amelia's question, the group gave her a figure.
"One million dollars."
"A million dollars?" Amelia exclaimed.
Amelia froze. She'd assumed Harry would owe a few thousand dollars like before, which was an amount she could pay back with gritted teeth. But a million dollars? Where would she find that kind of money?
"I don't have that much," said Amelia. "Can I pay a portion now and settle the rest later?"
She wanted to appease these people first. After all, letting them linger in the hospital was a terrible idea.
"No, it has to be paid off in one go. How do we know you won't run off as Harry did?"
"I can assure you that we won't," replied Amelia.
"Your assurance is worthless. Tell you what, I'm giving you a day to come up with it. If you don't have it by then, don't blame us for taking action. You know what happens next!"
After delivering their sinister threats, the men left, leaving Amelia standing there looking utterly dejected. How on earth was she goin
