Chapter 37 World Wealthiest Man
At his question, Madeline froze for a second before quickly catching on.
"You were already there then?" she asked.
It was no wonder she'd kept feeling someone's gaze on her back. So, it hadn't been her imagination after all.
"Mr. Jameson, of all people, is actually tailing someone?" she teased.
Perhaps the atmosphere had grown too relaxed. The teasing remark slipped out before she could stop herself.
As soon as she said it, both of them paused.
A flicker of surprise crossed Samuel's deep-set eyes before he let out a low laugh.
A faint smile spread through those dark eyes, softening even the usually sharp, unyielding lines of his face.
"No one's ever dared to talk to me like that. You're the first," he said.
There was still a trace of hoarseness in his voice, but it sounded noticeably lighter.
Only then did Madeline realize what she'd said. She cleared her throat lightly and replied anyway, "Then that just means no one else dares to speak honestly to you."
