"Yeah." Isabella Waters didn’t want to talk much.
She’d just finished eating, and as she set down her chopsticks, she added, "If there’s nothing else, I’m gonna get some rest."
Without waiting for Julian Hart to say anything, she stood up and left the table.
Julian watched her walk away, feeling a knot of frustration in his chest.
These past few days, Isabella had been avoiding him with the excuse of needing to rest. He understood her condition wasn’t great, so he didn’t push anything. But the way she kept her distance—like he was some virus—was seriously getting to him.
They’d once been so close, yet now he couldn’t even get near her.
Irritated, Julian grabbed a bottle of liquor and started drinking alone.
He hadn’t planned on drinking much, just a little to take the edge off. But one glass led to another, and he ended up drunk.
Somehow, he found himself standing outside Isabella’s room. He paused for a bit, then quietly opened the door and stepped inside.
