Maya's POV
I swung my legs off the crude bed, ignoring the fresh wave of dizziness. My head still throbbed, but it was a familiar pain now, easy to override. "Where are Max and Leo?" I demanded, my voice gaining strength, steel entering each syllable.
Kael blinked, startled by my sudden transformation from fragile patient to determined warrior. "They're… they're in the old council room, Maya. Interrogating Aurora."
Aurora. The name struck another chord. The young woman who had been seen near the border, the one they suspected of collusion with the raiders. Max and Leo, forever seeking the 'hard evidence,' were still trying to extract a confession. And, I suspected, getting absolutely nowhere.
A plan, sharp and clear, formed in my mind. They wanted evidence? I had it. They wanted answers? They were about to get them. And they were going to get them from me.
Fury, cold and precise, propelled me forward. They wouldn't dismiss me again. Not this time.
