"You are Fin?" Max's voice was low, dangerous, a growl rumbling in his chest.
"That's me," Fin replied, his gaze unwavering as he met Max's furious stare. There was no fear in his eyes, only a detached, almost professional calm. "And I've got a message from Rafe. He says he's prepared to talk terms about Jackson."
"Terms?" Max scoffed, a dark laugh escaping him, devoid of all humour. "Rafe has no right to demand terms. He's a thief, a monster! He kidnaps children!"
"Perhaps," Fin conceded, a faint, irritatingly patient smile playing on his lips. "But he does have your son. And he sent me, Fin, to communicate his offer. He knows you want him back. And he knows you want him back safely."
"You think you can just waltz up to my gate, make demands after what he's done?" Max snarled, his hands clenching into fists, his knuckles white. "You think I'll simply trust the word of a man sent by Rafe? After he kidnapped my son, after the pain he's caused?"
