"Mr. Ryan, it's actually perfect timing. I've been wanting to ask you something," Victoria quickly said to the stone-faced Marlow, then turned to Henry with urgency in her voice.
"Sorry, I won't walk you out. Let's talk another time, okay?"
Henry got the hint instantly. Of course he did-she was clearly nervous. He nodded. "Sure. I'll head out now."
Without giving Marlow another glance, he turned to leave.
But before he could even move a step, a thunderous bark stopped him in his tracks.
"Stop right there!"
Marlow's voice cracked through the air like a whip, freezing both men-and scaring the hell out of Victoria, who stood there stunned, like someone pulled the plug on her brain.
Marlow's blazing eyes stayed locked on Henry for a long beat, until a gust of cold wind slipped in through the slightly open door, chilling the air just enough to diffuse some of his fury.
His sharp gaze caught the dazed look on Victoria's face, and his tone softened ever so slightly as he said, "We'll talk lat
