Jareth Carrington’s hand holding the fork suddenly paused mid-air. His sharp gaze flicked toward her, voice low and steady, but with a touch of coldness. “I’ll take care of it,” he said seriously.
Celestia Brooks hadn’t been expecting that kind of answer and went still, caught off guard.
A heavy silence hung between them.
A flicker of emotion flashed through her usually clear eyes. She really didn’t want to show her true feelings again, not in front of him. But she genuinely needed to know. After battling her thoughts internally, she finally asked, “Just now…in the garden, why did you say we won’t divorce?”
