34 The Auction
Jacob approached Lia with a playful gleam in his eyes, a charming smile gracing his lips. "Well, well, Lia, or should I say Rachel? What a delightful surprise to see you here."
Lia couldn't shake off the slight discomfort but maintained her composure. "Jacob, it's been a while. I go by Lia now."
Jacob chuckled, "Lia, Rachel, whatever you prefer, you're as enchanting as ever." He extended a hand, a subtle invitation. "If this were a ball, Tia would be my date."
Lia hesitated for a moment, glancing at Jacob's outstretched hand. "A dance wouldn't hurt Oh and Jacob, you're looking quite handsome yourself today. " she finally conceded, placing her hand in his.
“Join me for a drink.” Jacob said and Lia followed him theirs arms still intertwined.
Midway through, Jacob seized the opportunity to delve into the unspoken tension. "You seem a bit on edge, Lia. Is everything alright?"
Lia chose her words carefully, "Everything's fine, Jacob. Just navigating through some complicated moments."
