Rita may not have known much about business, but she could feel the tension between Abbott and Nelson.
She was the one who had dragged Abbott down with her.
"I'm sorry," Rita said, "I'll make it up to you."
"It's not necessary," Abbott replied with a faint smile, as if the losses didn't bother him.
After breakfast, Rita's phone kept ringing with incoming text messages.
She checked her phone.
Her expression darkened instantly.
Sensing her distress, Abbott asked, "What's wrong?"
"I received some messages from the bank," Rita replied.
Abbott had just taken a sip of water and nearly choked on her words.
He knew Rita's financial situation for years and was familiar with her routine of receiving payments in the afternoon. This was the first time he had seen her receive a payment in the morning.
