Chapter 136
The butler rushed in and told Calliope, "Ma'am, we just heard from the hospital."
"Mr. Godfrey's fine, just a small cut on his forehead. The doctor said there might be a light concussion, so they'll keep him overnight for observation. But nothing serious-he should be home tomorrow."
Eleanor finally put her worries to rest.
She caught sight of Conrad walking over and immediately called out, "Mr. Hilliard, I need to ask you for a favor."
Conrad stopped a few steps away, his deep gaze flicking toward Calliope.
She shot him a glance but quickly looked away when their eyes met.
"Of course, ma'am," he replied with his usual calm tone.
Eleanor took hold of her daughter's hand, and before Calliope could react, placed it gently into Conrad's large palm.
"Thank you for bringing her home today," Eleanor said, her eyes misting up as she looked at their joined hands. "Even if her father and the rest of the family don't accept you, it doesn't matter to me. I do. To me, you're already my son-in-law."
