The assistant wore a professional smile, but her words carried a not-so-subtle warning.
"Miss Wells, it's best not to ask questions that aren't yours to ask."
"You just need to wait for Mr. Hilliard in the lounge."
Right now, Calliope was sitting a bit stiffly on the couch in Ethan's office.
He was buried in paperwork, his broad shoulders and narrow waist neatly framed by a sharp suit that made him look effortlessly authoritative.
The sound of the pen scratching was crisp and clear in the quiet room.
"Give me a few minutes," he said without even glancing up.
Calliope quickly straightened her posture. "No rush, sir, please take your time."
She honestly didn't know what to make of the situation. Of all people, he'd called her in here one-on-one, leaving his wife and that group of socialites hanging outside.
Hopefully Sophia wouldn't read too much into it.
But then again, Sophia seemed like a decent person, and Calliope was already married anyway. Probably not a big deal.
