Everyone had their own thoughts about the holiday, but at least most parents knew where their kids were. Except for Shayla's parents.
When it was time for Tyler to notify families about their children attending the wedding, Shayla had stopped him. She shook her head and refused. After all, she hadn't spent New Year's with her parents in years.
When they had lived abroad, her parents hadn't cared whether she celebrated or not. They didn't even bother to call. The few times she had called them, they brushed her off, saying New Year's wasn't a big deal where they were, and hung up.
Eventually, Shayla stopped expecting anything. Recently, she had even cut ties with them completely. After a particularly heated argument, she had blocked their numbers.
She was tired of being a tool for her parents to use, especially when it came to leveraging her friendship with Melina for their own gain.
