Hailey looked at Tara with disdain as the latter walked out of the elevator.
Hailey sneered. "Who knows if you two have any ulterior motives. You've just returned, but you're already so eager to show up wherever the men are."
Hailey's gaze held clear intent as she addressed Tara, a look Betty didn't miss. Though new to the workforce, Betty sensed the unspoken message in Hailey's words, a message Hailey telegraphed so strongly one would have to be deaf not to perceive it.
"That's bullshit! I asked Tara for help. How could you think of her like that?" Betty hissed.
She was afraid that Hailey, with her sharp tongue, might hurt Tara's feelings. Tara was innocent for getting dragged into this after lending Betty a hand.
Despite Betty's displeasure, Hailey remained adamant. Although her voice turned softer, her tone dripped with sarcasm when she spoke again. "I don't even need to speculate. She knows exactly what she's done back then."
Betty fumed. "So what? Don't you also like—"
